Political courage begets more of the same

The virtues of history’s finest leaders are often infectious. John McCain is long known for his political independence….not for its own sake, but in honest pursuit of a greater good. One of the Senator’s most ardent supporters, Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr., likewise exhibits the same political courage. The New York Times recently profiled the Governor’s stand-out support of Sen. McCain, though in his own state Mitt Romney’s popularity is unparalleled.

“John McCain is a remarkable American hero who has experienced war, and in the post-9/11 period, what better kind of leader could we have than that?” Governor Huntsman, a Republican, said in an interview. “If ever there was a time in our history when you need someone with his background, it would be now.

In an era where a protracted war has eroded our national confidence, the contagiousness of John McCain’s vigor and independence has never been needed more.
